3 days long festival held every year in Sand dune Leisure park at Summor Nubra where the artists from every villages gathered to showcase their culture , traditions and local skills. It is being organised by the people of summer village. Every years its being conducted on 22nd , 23rd and 24th of June. This vibrant celebration of culture includes archery contests, camel riding, dances and traditional food stalls. Tourist from different part of India and around the globe come to enjoy the rich display of culture and tradition of silk route days.
Famous festival of the region which last for 3 days with various cultural events and display of skills by the locals. Most attractive features of this festival includes camel safari, cultural show, archery competition, dance by different ethnic groups of ladakh, heritage walk etc. Tourists are provided huge discount in hotels and resorts as a gesture of warm welcome to participate in the festival.
Pangong Tso can be reached in a five-hour drive from Leh, most of it on a rough and dramatic mountain road. The road crosses the villages of Shey and Gya and traverses the third-highest pass in the world, the Changla pass, where army sentries and a small teahouse greet visitors.
The 250 years old Ensa Gompa, nestled on top of a rock overlooking snow-peaked mountains across the valley is much further away than it looks. It takes at least a six-hour walk to reach, which involves crossing the river at Hargam.
Samstenling Monastery was founded by Lama Tsultrim Nima and Monastic community was introduced as Rezong Gompa. About 50-60 monks are residing at this 132 years old monastery. The Gompa has some strict rules and regulations.
Diskit Gompa was founded by Lama Sherab Zangpo of Stod in about 1420 AD during the reign of King Dragspa. About 100 monks are residing in the Gompa, which is a branch of Thikse Monastery. The monastic festival called Gustor takes place on 20th and 21st days of the 12th month of Tibetan calendar. Spectacular view of the valley can be seen from the monastery.
Diskit is the main village of headquarter of Nubra valley, which has a small market consisting of a row of shops and about 500 years old Gompa on the hilltop. Spectacular view of the valley can be seen from the monastery.
Hunder village is known for its sand dunes sitting pretty amidst snowcapped mountains green valleys and rivers. It is a place where you can find sand dunes, rivers, mountains.
Hunder is a beautiful village to stay with lot of trees and you will really enjoy your stay at Hunder. It has a small monastery and ruined fort above the village and is located on the ancient Silk Route. The walk or Camel Safari (Double Hump bacterian camels) from Hunder to Diskit, through sand dunes for two hours is wonderful.
The road journey to Nubra valley leads through Khardung La pass (The highest Motor able road in the world) 18,390 ft. around 50 Km away from Leh. There are two checkpoints on the both sides of the pass. Khardong is the first village of Nubra valley at higher altitude than Deskit and other village.
